How Do You Contour with Organic Makeup?
Contouring is a technique used in makeup to enhance the natural features of the face. We can use shadows and highlights to define and sculpt the face, creating depth and dimension. This technique involves applying a darker shade to areas you want to recede and a lighter shade to areas you want to bring forward.
Steps for Contouring
- Before starting to contour make sure your face has been moisturized and you have applied a base of foundation and concealer.
- Using a contour color that is a cream or stick, start right underneath your cheekbones.
- Follow the cheekbone down until it gets to a stopping point.
- Make almost a check mark motion, but not quite.
- Make sure while blending that the color does not come down too far.
- Go around the outside of your face where a natural shadow would be.
- By doing this, you are sculpting out the natural curvature of your face.
- If you have a prominent forehead you can add a little bit of contour up there as well.
- Blend the color in with a brush or your fingers.
- You can follow the natural shadow under your lip as well.
- If you want to define your nose you can contour the sides as well.
- Remember when contouring that you should not see any lines when you are done. It should look like a natural shadow.
Tips for Contouring
Here are some extra tips when it comes to contouring.

- Contouring is very forgiving and if you mess up you can always fix it.
- If you are in a hurry you can use your fingers to blend instead of a brush.
- You can use a cream or stick contour color.
