How Do You Cover Acne with a Natural Look?

We get this question a lot at Piper Blue, and we have the answer!

We are going to show you how to cover acne with a natural look. We will start by prepping the skin with our setting spray and lightweight serum. This will help nourish the skin and make it easier to apply makeup. The setting spray is ultra-nourishing, anti-aging, and great for acne by itself. We love this product because it helps the makeup have more staying power.

While the face is still wet from the setting spray, we will add one drop of our lightweight serum. This helps spread the makeup further using less and nourishing the skin, getting it ready to apply the makeup.

We will start with her main foundation color, which is a W-2. She is warm and fair and has a little bit of red overtone, so this color works great for her. We will start with the mouth and work upwards along the sides of the nose, then go underneath the eye on the eye bone with this color. Typically, the undereyes are a shade lighter than your main foundation.

We will then do some contouring. We don't want to do a whole lot because we want to keep it looking super natural. This is a look that I would do on myself for a light supernatural day or on a day that I want to go pretty fast on my makeup, you know, one to two minutes. We will put a little bit on around the hair lengths you have natural shadows there, a little bit above the eyebrows, and along the sides of the nose.

After that, we will put on just the tiniest bit of blush on the apples of the cheek and a little bit up the cheekbone and then blend well, so it just looks like a subtle blushed look.

Next, we will do the under-eye. We will take the under-eye color, which is typically one shade lighter. We will just start in the corners of the eyes, and the reason for this is that we're doing a natural look. We don't want to put on very much product or cover too much, so we're going to put that on and then blend it across the eye. We will wait until the end to do a second blend just because she has an oily under-eye, which is typical for teens, and we will set it with a little bit of powder and a setting spray. It won't even look like she has anything on at all, and this is a really good tip for those who want a natural look from their makeup.

Now for the acne coverage. We will use the very tip of the makeup blender; you can also use a very tiny brush to do blemishes. You typically want to do a shade darker than your skin color or darker and warmer; that's what will cover the best unless you have old acne scars that are more of a deep purple or blue, and then you would want a color corrector. For purples, you want a yellow-orange color; for blues, you'd want more yellow, and that also goes for dark under eyes as well.

On the color correction, you want to make sure that you use that darker color, and you only put it on the very top of that blemish that you're using and do not get it around the edges or else blend the edges out so it doesn't look like you have a darker color on the skin that is lighter, and it will blend out and look like it disappears.

Lastly, we will take a little bit of her contour color and just fill in the eyebrows a little bit. The colors are so versatile; I love being able to use the same color in one palette for other things. Both these colors are very versatile; you can use the contour for eyebrows liner; you can use it on the lips as a contour or liner, and it's just awesome that you have one palette for everything and that you can do it quickly, easily, and however you want. If you want full glam makeup, you can do it; if you want a no-makeup look or a natural makeup look, it's super easy to do any of it.
