How Do You Find the Perfect Foundation Match?
Finding the right foundation shade can feel impossible—especially with organic makeup! But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. At Piper Blue, we believe in enhancing your natural beauty with clean, skin-loving ingredients, and today, we’re walking you through Color Matching 101 to make sure your foundation looks seamless and radiant.
Step 1: Test Foundation on the Right Spot
A common mistake is testing the foundation on your wrist or hand, but your face is a different color! Instead, we apply three shades along the chin and jawline—this area represents the true tone of your face.
- If a shade looks too dark, it may appear orange or muddy.
- If it’s too light, it can look ashy or create a white cast.
- The perfect match will blend into the skin effortlessly, enhancing your complexion without standing out.
Step 2: Matching Your Under-Eye
Your under-eye area is typically one shade lighter than your foundation. If your concealer is too dark, it can make the area look shadowy. If it’s too light, it can appear gray or emphasize dark circles. We recommend:
- A slightly lighter shade to brighten and lift the eyes.
- A color corrector if you have dark circles (yellow for blue tones, peach for purple tones).
Step 3: Contour & Blush Placement
To sculpt and enhance your features naturally:
- Contour should blend seamlessly—not look muddy or too stark. Apply it along the hairline, under the cheekbones, jawline, and lightly under the lip.
- Blush should sit on the apples of the cheeks, blending into the contour for a soft, natural flush.
- Bronzer goes where the sun naturally hits—above the brows, cheekbones, and jawline—to add warmth.
Step 4: Blend, Set & Finish
The key to a natural finish is blending! We suggest blending lighter areas first, then moving to contour and blush. When setting your makeup, use a light touch with setting powder—our technique avoids heavy baking to keep your skin looking fresh and radiant.
